Regulation of the IAU 50km Trophy (IAU50K)
1. The Executive Council of the IAU decides which race will be a National Selection Race (SR) and which race will organize the Final Race for the IAU50K.
2. The national selection races need to meet the IAU regulated quality requirements, need to have an IAU label and have to be conducted according to IAAF Rules and IAU Guidelines.
3. The national selection races will take place preferably between January 1st and August 31st.
4. The final leg of the series will be staged in September or October. In 2007 this will be in Palermo.
5. Athletes may take part in as many races they want but only the best result (time) will count.
6. Every runner who wants to be ranked in the final ranking of the IAU50K Trophy has to run the Final Race.
7. The addition sum of the best individual time, run in one of the SR's, and its time in the Final Race will generate the final ranking of the IAU50K.
8. Only athletes belonging to federations affiliated to the IAAF will be considered in the final ranking.
9. The organisation of the Final Race will invite the following athletes (a travel grant + free accommodation for maximum 3 nights):
a. The winners of the selection races if they ran faster than 3h20' (men) or 3h50' (women)
b. A number of wildcards, following the intermediate ranking after the last selection race.
c. A maximum of 30 athletes will be invited this way (the goal is 15 men and 15 women)
d. An additional 10 runners (preferable 5 men and 5 women) will be offered free accommodation.
10. In case there is prize money in the final race, it will go to the top runners of this final race.
11. The final race will work out a budget friendly accommodation offer for non invited athletes and non competitive persons who want to accompany the athletes.
